Chapter 30

How did your parents pick your name?

by Jim Stamp on June 13, 2022.

My Great-Great-Great-Great Grandparents were William
(1743 – 1862) and Hannah McFadden (1769 – 1849). They
had 8 children, including James who was born 7-20-1796.
James (1796 -1873) married Jane Marshall (1802 – 1887).
James and Jane Marshall also had 8 children, including Levi
Marshall Stamp who was born 10-27-1834. Levi married
Ruth Vernon Hawkins (1843 – 1922] on November 2, 1865.
Levi and Ruth had 9 children, one of whom was James
William Stamp, my Great-Great Grandpa.

My Great-Great Grandpa died March 2, 1944 when I was a
year and 4 months old. So, there has been a “James” Stamp
in our ancestry since 1796. However, neither myself nor my
siblings have named any of their children James, so, as of
now, that name will end with me as a continuous Christian name for the last 226 years.
